To write is to explore. To discover. To shape. To create. In this class, students will discover their abilities to write for an audience with the purpose of entertaining and relating.
Students will explore a variety of strategies for writing in multiple forms, which may include poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction and script writing. There will be an emphasis on engagement in the writing process and the importance of working as a community of writers, using collaboration and feedback as well as writing from models to produce compelling stories.
Students may be inspired to create work to submit to literary magazines. Regardless of a student’s creative aspirations beyond the classroom, all students can benefit from looking closely at the world around them, practicing a skill, recognizing areas of weakness, and taking risks that help push beyond comfort zones.
